The Enigma community is full of people who think about risks for a living, so we’ve been planning carefully for COVID-19 safety at Enigma 2022.

At the in-person conference in Santa Clara, CA, everyone will be vaccinated, well-masked, and tested daily. More details about these expectations is below.

If you're unable to attend in person, please register for the virtual conference option. You'll be able to engage with speakers and attendees via Slack, and experience the same exciting program we've put together for you.

The deadlines for Early Bird registration, hotel reservations at the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara, and conference grant applications have been extended to Tuesday, January 18. Please consider taking action today to plan to join us.

We’ll be taking the following measures at the in-person conference to keep all event participants safe:

Vaccination and Mask Requirements

  • All participants will show proof of full vaccination, per CDC guidelines, to be admitted to the conference.
  • All participants will wear good masks that cover all respiratory orifices (for most people, that means nose and mouth), and they must be highly effective*. Appropriate masks will be available for those who do not have one.

Daily Testing

  • All attendees and USENIX staff will be antigen tested outdoors each morning prior to being admitted to the event. Those who miss the morning tests will not be permitted entry, but may participate in the virtual conference.
  • Those who test positive will be asked to attend the conference virtually. Speakers who test positive will present their talks virtually as well.

Exclusive Meeting Spaces and Open-Air Options

  • The entire in-person event will take place on the hotel's mezzanine level; the space has been reserved solely for USENIX's use.
  • Meals will be in either open-air space overlooking the lobby or outside, weather permitting. Attendees will always have the option to take their food outside.

We look forward to waving at you, whether in person or virtually, at Enigma 2022!

* What are acceptable mask standards? Chinese KN95 (GB2626-2006), Korean KF94 (KMOEL - 2017-64), European FFP2 or FFP3 (EN 143), or NIOSH {N/R/P}{95,99,100}. If the respirator has an exhale valve, the valve must be visibly sealed, such as by being fully taped over. Cloth and surgical masks are not sufficiently protective, especially against an aerosol virus as infectious as Omicron.
